Q.1-10. Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below it certain words are given in bold to help you locate them while answering some of the questions.
It is a well known fact that, a man is weak where his attachment lies. We
as mere humans always crave to get attached to an object to make it a source
of our happiness, fulfilment and security. The 'object' may vary from being a
fellow human or a pet, a smartphone or a motor-vehicle to an abstract idea of
God. We get socially, emotionally, physically, sexually and even spiritually
dependent on it. We tend to protect and fight for it. We even begin to doubt
our survival and identity without it. We go through enormous pain and
turmoil when if in any instance we lose it, but alas! We manage to find
ourselves another such object to fill the vacuum created. And thus begins the
endless walk within the deceptive woods of attachment.
An attachment fosters
dependence, dependence encourages need. Need makes us selfish and
selfishness equates to egoism. An egoistic thinks of only himself which later
may lead to hedonism and sometimes narcissism. This illusion that we
live and believe in keep us entrapped in the web forever, making us to lose our
very purpose of existence.
It is only when a man
practices the Art of Detachment, he begins to find himself and the true meaning
of his life.
What exactly is the art of
detachment? Does it mean to pack our bags and to find ourselves a cave in the
great Himalayas? The answer is a No.
We all can learn the art of
detachment from a simple tree itself. If we look at a tree, we may learn the
power and the art of being detached. Even if it stands in a wood it is not
attached to any other tree, it is not attached to the birds it is sheltering,
it is not attached to the passer by who is resting underneath. It neither asks
for any help nor for any appreciation. It is wholly connected to the mother
nature which keeps it alive and hence finds its purpose of existence. So to
begin the practice we have to become like the tree.
Start by getting connected to
the mother nature first, that is by spending the nights under the stars,
breathing the fresh morning air, looking around and appreciating the beauty of
life. Secondly, stop expecting from the fellow living and non living entities.
If we stop expecting we instantaneously become detached without
physically or socially being away. We become self-reliable and
independent of any emotional baggage connected to anything. Thirdly, start
giving, it can be a small help, our love and care to someone in need of it, an
effort to make someone's day better or sharing our experience and knowledge,
irrespective of someone asking for it or not.
So
start practicing and feel the difference!
