Former cricket captain Ajit Wadekar, who led India to their first overseas wins in England and West Indies, passed away. He was 77.

2. D Bala Venkatesh Varma appointed Ambassador to Russia
Senior diplomat D Bala Venkatesh Varma has been appointed as India's next ambassador to Russia.
Varma, a 1988 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, is currently serving as Indian envoy in Spain.

भारतीय विदेश सेवा के 1988 बैच के अधिकारी वर्मा वर्तमान में स्पेन में भारतीय राजदूत के रूप में कार्यरत हैं।
3. Renowned Malayalam poet Chemmanam Chacko dies
Noted Malayalam poet and Sahitya Akademi awardee C. Chacko died. He was 92.
Known for his satirical works, Chacko reacted to the contemporary socio-political issues of Kerala through his poems.
मलयालम के जाने माने कवि सी चाको का निधन
साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार से सम्मानित मलयाली कवि सी चाको का निधन हो गया। वह 92 वर्ष के थे।
अपने हास्यपूर्ण रचनाओं के लिए मशहूर चाको ने अपनी कविताओं को केरल के समकालीन सामाजिक-राजनीतिक मुद्दों पर केन्द्रित किया था।
4. Anandiben Patel takes oath as Governor of Chhattisgarh

5. India gifts 30 ambulances to Nepal on Independence Day
India gifted 30 ambulances and six buses to Nepalese hospitals, charitable organisations and educational institutions on the occasion of its 72nd Independence Day.
Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri handed over keys of the vehicles to the representatives of the respective organisations at a function in the premises of the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.

7. Film Actor Akshay Kumar Becomes Brand Ambassador for Road Safety Campaigns
Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Nitin Gadkari launched three short films for generating public awareness towards road safety. Film actor Shri Akshay Kumar has featured in these films, which are directed by R.Balki. In a function attended by MoS Mansukh L Mandavia in New Delhi, Gadkari announced the appointment of Akshay Kumar as Road Safety Brand Ambassador.

केंद्रीय सड़क परिवहन और राजमार्ग, शिपिंग, जल संसाधन, नदी विकास और गंगा संरक्षण मंत्री नितिन गडकरी ने सड़क सुरक्षा के प्रति जनजागरुकता पैदा करने के लिए तीन लघु फिल्में लांच की। फिल्म अभिनेता अक्षय कुमार ने इन फिल्मों में भूमिका निभाई है। इन फिल्मों का निर्देशन आर बल्की ने किया है। इस सिलसिले में आयोजित समारोह में गडकरी ने अक्षय कुमार को सड़क सुरक्षा के लिए बांड ऐम्बैसेडर नियुक्त करने की घोषणा की। इस अवसर पर राज्य मंत्री मनसुख एल मांडविया भी उपस्थित थे।
