वैश्विक संस्थान ‘इंस्टीट्यूट फॉर इकोनॉमिक्स एंड पीस’ (आईपी) द्वारा संग्रहित 163 देशों के आंकड़ों में सीरिया को सबसे कम शांति वाला देश कहा गया है जिसके बाद के क्रम में दक्षिण सूडान, इराक, अफगानिस्तान और सोमालिया हैं। दूसरी तरफ आइसलैंड को दुनिया का सबसे शांतिपूर्ण देश बताया गया है। भारत को इस वैश्विक शांति सूचकांक में 141वें स्थान पर रखा गया और इस तरह से उसे बुरंडी, सर्बिया तथा बुरकिना फासो जैसे देशों से भी कम शांति वाला बताया गया।
