NPCI gets final nod to operate Bharat Bill Payment System
National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has received final approval from the Reserve Bank to function as the Bharat Bill Payment Central Unit (BBPCU) and operate Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS).
"Nearly 45 crore bills, which comprise electricity, telecom, DTH, water and gas, are permitted under BBPS. This initiative will provide a major push to digital payments as it is a big step forward in formalising the bill payment system in the country," NPCI managing director and CEO A P Hota said in a statement here.
Last year in August, eight BBPS operating units, which received in-principle approval from the RBI, took part in the pilot, it said.

नेशनल पेमेंट्स कारपोरेशन आफ इंडिया (एनपीसीआई) को भारत बिल पेमेंट सेंट्रल यूनिट (बीबीपीसीयू) के रूप में काम करने तथा भारत बिल पेमेंट सिस्टम (बीबीपीएस) के परिचालन की अंतिम अनुमति मिली।
एनपीसीआई के प्रबंध निदेशक एपी होता ने एक बयान में यह जानकारी दी।
इसके अनुसार, बिजली, टेलीफोन, डीटीएच, पानी व गैस सहित विभिन्न तरह के लगभग 45 करोड़ बिलों की अनुमति बीबीपीएस के तहत है। इस पहल से डिजिटल भुगतान को बड़ा बल मिलेगा।
