1. Padma Prabha Puraskaram:
Eminent poet, lyricist and journalist Prabha Varma
has been selected for the Padma Prabha Puraskaram this year.
The award, carrying a cash prize of Rs 75,000, a plaque and
a citation, was instituted by the Padma Prabha Memorial Trust.
Veerendra Kumar, a Rajya Sabha member, served thrice as
Press Trust of India (PTI) chairman and is at present a director in the premier
news agency.
2. Mathrubhumi Literary award:
Eminent writer M K Sanu has been chosen for the
Mathrubhumi Literary Award for 2016 in recognition of his rich contribution to
the Malayalam literature.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, a citation and
a statuette.
Sanu is a recipient of several honours, including the Kerala
Sahitya Akademi Award, Vayalar Award, Padmaprabha Award, Kendra Sahitya Adademi
Award and Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for his overall contributions.
3. Bhimsen Joshi award:
Noted vocalist Manik Bhide has been chosen for the
prestigious Bharatratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi award for year 2017-18 for her
contribution in the field of music.
4. ANR National Award:
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu felicitated film-maker S
S Rajamouli with the prestigious ANR National Award for his contribution to
the Telugu film industry.

6. UK business award:
A Ghana-based Indian entrepreneur, Birendra Sasmal
has won the 'International Business Person of the Year' award in the UK for his
efforts to bring innovative IT solutions to Africa.
7. Swedish Rights Award:
Colin Gonsalves, a senior Indian advocate was
selected for a prestigious rights award in Sweden for his innovative use of
public interest litigation in securing fundamental human rights for India’s
most marginalized and vulnerable citizens.
Gonsalves, a New Delhi-based Supreme Court lawyer, will
share the award and the prize money worth over USD 300,000 (SEK 3 million) with
two other laureates -- Khadija Ismayilova from Azerbaijan and Robert Bilott
from the US, according to a statement by the 2017 Right Livelihood Awards
Honour Inspiring Change makers and Champions of Justice.
8. Von Hippel Award:
Eminent scientist Professor C N R Rao has become the
first Asian to be chosen for the prestigious Von Hippel Award for his immense
contribution in materials research.
The award is the US-based Materials Research Society’s (MRS)
highest honour.
It recognises "those qualities most prized by materials
scientists and engineers -- brilliance and originality of intellect, combined
with vision that transcends the boundaries of conventional scientific
disciplines," according to the MRS.
