International Day for Disaster Reduction is observed every year on 13th October all over the world to reduce and spread awareness among people for making nations more disaster resilient. This year the theme of International Day for Disaster Reduction is Home Safe Home: Reducing Exposure, Reducing Displacement. This year’s target focuses on reducing the number of affected people by disaster by 2030.
UN General Assembly celebrates International Day for Disaster Reduction firstly in 1989. Earlier it was scheduled on the first Wednesday of October, in 2009 it UN general assembly decided to celebrate it every year on 13th October.
Thousands of people are dying every year from disasters. Most of them are totally unaware about the policies, methods or procedures to reduce disaster exposure. This day is marked to create such awareness and preparedness among people so that the number of effected people can be reduced.
As per the official site on UNIDDR , The 2017 campaign seeks to raise global awareness about effective actions, policies and practices taken to reduce exposure to disaster risk at the community level, thereby contributing to save homes and livelihoods.
This year lets pledge together to create awareness among the people residing in disaster affected areas and help them in living a better life ahead.
