National Voters Day - 25-01-18

Dear Aspirants,

Voting is the most precious right of every citizen, and we have a moral obligation to ensure the integrity of our voting process.”

The National Voters' Day or Rashtriya Mat data Diwas is celebrated on January 25 every year.
History

The Government of India has decided to celebrate January 25 every year as 'National Voters' Day' (Hindi: राष्ट्रीय मतदाता दिवस) to encourage more and more young voters to take part in the political process. It was started with an aim to create awareness about casting votes. The first Voters’ day was observed on January 25, 2011, to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission. The Election Commission of India is an autonomous constitutional authority responsible for administering election processes in the country and founded in 1950. It administers elections to the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, state legislatures and the offices of the President and Vice President in India.

National Voters’ Day 2018

This day should be celebrated by creating maximum awareness about the fundamental right of casting a vote. Especially those teenagers who are turning 18 this year, should be encouraged and educated about the importance of casting a vote.

Theme for 2018: “Assessable Elections”

Facebook has launched ‘take the pledge’ feature on its platform for National Voters' Day

Facebook and Election Commission of India has announced to roll out a new feature on the platform that will send a reminder to users aged 18 years and above to take the pledge to vote.

By clicking on “Take the Pledge” button, users will be directed to the EC’s Facebook post which will have the National Voters’ Day pledge.

Earlier, during the state elections of 2016 and 2017, the social media giant had introduced the voter registration reminder in partnership with the EC and its Chief Electoral Officers.

The company and the EC also partnered to register first-time voters wherein users who turn 18 received a News Feed reminder wishing them a happy birthday and register to vote on the EC website.

So, on this Voters’ Day take a pledge for casting your valuable vote for the benefit of the nation. Keep this in mind that “The one sure way of participating in the process of nation-building is to vote on the Election Day.”
