- India is at 42nd place on an annual Global Democracy Index.
- Norway is at 1st place.Iceland is at 2nd place and Sweden is at 3rd place.
- North Korea is ranked the lowest at 167th, while Syria is a notch better at 166th place.
The index ranks 165 independent states and two territories on the basis of five categories:
- electoral process
- pluralism
- civil liberties
- functioning of government
- political participation
- political culture.
The list has been divided into four broad categories:
- full democracy
- flawed democracy
- hybrid regime
- authoritarian regime.
The US (ranked 21), Japan, Italy, France, Israel, Singapore, and Hong Kong have also been named among 'flawed democracies'.
The EIU is the research and analysis division of the UK-based media 'The Economist' Group. It was created in 1946.

बजट 2018:

- Anu Kumar of Uttarakhand grabbed the first gold medal of the Khelo India School Games, as Tamil Nadu won two of the six gold medals on offer on the opening day of the athletics programme of the Games.

- खेलो इंडिया स्कूल गेम्स के एथलेटिक कार्यक्रम के पहले दिन उत्तराखंड के अनु कुमार ने पहला स्वर्ण पदक जीत लिया, जबकि 6 स्वर्ण पदकों में से 2 तमिलनाडु ने जीते।
- जवाहर लाल नेहरु स्टेडियम में आयोजित इस दौड़ में तमिलनाडु के एथलीटों ने 2 स्वर्ण पदक जीते, शेष उत्तराखंड, केरल, उत्तर प्रदेश और हरियाणा की झोली में गए।
- अनु कुमार ने स्पोर्ट्स कॉलेज रायपुर में प्रशिक्षण हासिल किया है और वह फ्रांस में आयोजित वर्ल्ड स्कूल गेम्स में 800 मीटर की दौड़ में भारत के लिए रजत पदक जीत चुका है। उसने 1500 मीटर का फाइनल आराम से 4:04.77 सेकंड में पूरा किया। मध्यम दूरी के प्रतिष्ठित स्टार, उत्तराखंड के अनु ने फ्रांस में 800 मीटर की दौड़ 1:53.53 सेकंड में पूरी कर रजत पदक प्राप्त किया था।
