Former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee died. He was 89.
A ten-time Lok Sabha MP, Chatterjee was a central committee member of the CPM, which he had joined in 1968.

लोकसभा के पूर्व अध्यक्ष सोमनाथ चटर्जी का निधन हो गया। वह 89 वर्ष के थे।
दस बार लोकसभा के सांसद रहे चटर्जी माकपा की केंद्रीय समिति के सदस्य थे। वह 1968 में माकपा में शामिल हुए थे।
2. Nobel prize-winning author V S Naipaul dies in London
V S Naipaul, the Trinidad-born Indian-origin author and Nobel Prize winner, has died. He was 85.
नोबेल पुरस्कार से सम्मानित लेखक वी एस नायपॉल का निधन
त्रिनिदाद में जन्मे भारतीय मूल के प्रख्यात लेखक तथा नोबेल पुरस्कार विजेता वी एस नायपॉल का निधन हो गया । वह 85 वर्ष के थे ।
3. Dutta elected vice president of South West Asian Football Federation
All India Football Federation senior vice president Subrata Dutta has been elected as a vice president of the newly formed South West Asian Football Federation during its General Assembly in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Dutta has been elected to the post for a four-year term in the polls of the regional football body.
दक्षिण पश्चिम एशियाई फुटबाल महासंघ के उपाध्यक्ष चुने गये दत्ता
अखिल भारतीय फुटबाल महासंघ के वरिष्ठ उपाध्यक्ष सुब्रत दत्ता को नवनिर्मित दक्षिण पश्चिम एशियाई फुटबाल महासंघ का उपाध्यक्ष चुना गया। यह फैसला सऊदी अरब में जेद्दाह में महासंघ की आम सभा के दौरान लिया गया।
दत्ता को क्षेत्रीय फुटबॉल निकाय के चुनाव में चार साल के कार्यकाल के लिए इस पद पर चुना गया है।
4. Pune ranked one, New Delhi 65th on Ease of Living Index
Pune has been ranked first in the Ease of Living Index launched by Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry. Navi Mumbai has been ranked second and while Delhi at 65th place in the list.
According to the ministry, Greater Mumbai has been ranked three, followed by Triputi, Chandigarh, Thane, Raipur, Indore, Vijaywada and Bhopal.
The survey was conducted on 111 cities in the country.
पुणे ईज ऑफ लीविंग इन्डेक्स में पहले स्थान पर
आवास और शहरी मामलों के मंत्रालय द्वारा शुरू की गई लिविंग इंडेक्स में पुणे को पहले स्थान पर रखा गया है। नवी मुंबई को दूसरे स्थान पर रखा गया है और दिल्ली में 65 वां स्थान पर है।
मंत्रालय के मुताबिक, ग्रेटर मुंबई को तीसरे स्थान पर रखा गया है, इसके बाद त्रिपुति, चंडीगढ़, ठाणे, रायपुर, इंदौर, विजयवाड़ा और भोपाल हैं।
सर्वेक्षण देश के 111 शहरों पर आयोजित किया गया था।
5. Justice V.K. Tahilramani sworn-in Chief Justice of Madras HC
Justice Vijaya Kamlesh Tahilramani was sworn-in as Chief Justice of the Madras High Court by Governor Banwarilal Purohit at a ceremony in Raj Bhavan in Chennai. The Governor also administered the oath of office to the new Chief Justice.

तमिलनाडु के राज्यपाल बनवारीलाल पुरोहित ने न्यायमूर्ति विजया कमलेश ताहिलरमानी को मद्रास उच्च न्यायालय के मुख्य न्यायाधीश के रूप में शपथ दिलाई।
6. Defence minister inaugurates strategically important bridge in Hussainiwala
Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated a strategically important bridge in Hussainiwala, which was was blown off during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war to stop advance of enemy force's armoured units.
After dedicating the 280-foot-long bridge to the nation, she said it connects Ferozepur with Hussainiwala barrage on the Sutlej river.
रक्षा मंत्री ने हुसैनीवाला में सामरिक महत्व के पुल का उद्घाटन किया
रक्षा मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण ने हुसैनीवाला में सामरिक रूप से महत्वपूर्ण एक पुल का उद्घाटन किया। इस पुल को 1971 के भारत पाक युद्ध में दुश्मन की सेना की बख्तरबंद इकाई को आगे बढ़ने से रोकने के लिए उड़ा दिया गया था।
280 लंबे पुल को राष्ट्र को समर्पित करते हुए सीतारमण ने कहा कि यह सतलुज नदी पर बने हुसैनीवाला बैराज के साथ फिरोजपुर को जोड़ेगा।
