There is crying need today to check the increasing rate of addiction in the state and the (1) it is having on people’s health and ultimately on their lives. Cigarette, pan masala, gutka, tobacco, etc are being sold at every nook and corner of the city, even though every cigarette pack has the (2) ‘cigarette smoking is injurious to health’; on every pack of pan masala, it is written ‘chewing of pan masala can be injurious to health’ and so on. The question is when will other states’ governments address this issue? Just for selfish reasons, the big tycoons are doing their business and earning profits, at risk are so many lives . As far as drugs are concerned, it is being made available in a very covert manner to our youths and poor people on the footpath. Passing though the common public places I come across many beggars on the footpath or pavement- the sight of 2 people together sitting in a group and consuming drugs. I do not know what they take. But yes, I am sure that it must be drugs, because I have seen injections in their hands,. People are earning a livelihood with these silent (9). Authorities who can actually and easily deal with this issue must (10) now. Policies can be framed for not producing these things at all.
