If we see the SBI or IBPS PO exam pattern for the last year, no change is observed in the exam pattern of both IBPS & SBI exams this year.
Important Points related to Preliminary Exam Pattern
- There is a sectional timing (20 minutes for each subject) in the Pre exam.
- No sectional cut off for both Prelim and Main examination is there.
- Candidates are given total duration of 1 hour to complete the preliminary exam.
- Three sections (English, Math and Reasoning) with a total of 100 questions and maximum score of 100 marks are given.
- For each wrong attempt there is negative marking and 0.25 marks are deducted against it.

Important Points related to Mains Exam Pattern
- There are different time durations are allocated for all subjects which means there is a sectional timing.
- There is no separate paper for Computer Applications. It is merged with Reasoning section and the total number of questions is 45 which holds 60 marks.
- The overall time allotted for PO Mains is 180 minutes.
Descriptive Paper: In both IBPS & SBI exams there is a Descriptive Paper where candidates will be assessed through their writing skills.
The questions in Descriptive papers are based on:
- Essay Writing
- Letter or Application Writing
Total marks: 25
Total time allocated: 30 minutes.

After learning the basics, try to solve the questions in a short way. Learning short tricks initially takes much time but once are familiar with it helps you solve the questions within fraction of seconds. But Short tricks can be learnt only through a lot of practice.
Skip the difficult questions at initial stage:
At the initial stage of preparation avoid spending time on the questions which are difficult to solve.
Distribute the total time for each section:
These days every candidate has a mobile phone, keep the timer on while solving the question.
Note down the time taken by you in solving various kinds of questions. According make the preference list to followed in the exam.
Become your own competitor:
Whenever you solve a set of questions and if it requires 30 minutes, try to solve them in 20 minutes. Initially you will not be able to manage but you know ‘practice makes a man perfect’
Prepare for SBI PO Prelims and Mains simultaneously:
- Generally, it is seen that candidates have a belief that first we should focus on prelims and thereafter on Mains which is not at all a good thought.
- In today’s phenomenon, there is no huge gap (max approx. 30 days) between the dates of Prelims and mains exams, which is not sufficient at all to complete the preparation of mains exam from 0 level.
- This time should be utilized only by practicing a number of mock tests.
- A candidate who deeply observes the equation of time gap and required studies, he/she works simultaneously for all the phases.

- After following points mentioned above, it’s time to finally design your exam strategy.
- Make a proper list of topics/subjects that you should attempt first.
- Try not to waste much time on the questions which look tough on
- the first sight.
- Topics like puzzle, sitting arrangement, DI, Rearrangement, Reading comprehension etc., should not be touched initially, it kills your time if you have not practiced a lot.
Initially it looks tough but not impossible, keep it in mind that all the exams are cracked by human beings like you and me.
