6-10. Read the following passage carefully and answer the given questions.

It is the time to change your food habit to suit the weather and keep gastrointestinal infection at bay. As showers lash the city hospitals are getting scores of patients with complaints of diarrhoea and infectious diseases. The number of patients suffering from gastrointestinal problems has increased by 10% in the past one week.

Doctors blame the increase on the tendency to eat food kept overnight. “Such food can cause stomach problems in this season. Government hospitals are flooded with patients suffering from diarrhea, gastroenteritis, gastritis, acidity and stomach ache,”. “The cause of the problem in more than 90% cases is contaminated food and water”.

Monsoon spells trouble for those with a weak immune system. Rain, high humidity and frequent change of temperature favour the growth of virus and bacteria. While viruses become hyperactive, bacteria multiply at a faster rate. Microbes in the air attack food and multiply thereon. The number of microbes attacking food increase with the duration it is kept for after being cooked.

According to city-based physician Dr. D.P. Mishra, “Gastro patients can be divided into two group-slum dwellers and middle-class. The universal cause in the first group is contaminated water, while food is the culprit of the second group”. It is also said that refrigerated food may not smell or appear stale but microbes definitely stay in it. Sometimes even the taste is perfectly fine.

6 Which of the following is the main reason for people falling sick during the monsoon season?
