Here we are providing you the important question of reasoning ability for the IBPS & SBI Exam.

1-10. Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below it. Certain words have been given in bold to help you locate them while answering some question.

We are witnessing an unprecedented growth in connectivity, data and broadband which is accelerating India’s transition to a knowledge economy. Digitisation, which harnesses the power of connecting people, process, data and things, will transform our industries and change the way we work and how governments serve its citizens. A report by the Columbia University has identified that digitisation has a larger contribution to GDP than stand-alone technologies. It states that a 10 point increase in digitisation yields a 0.74% increase in per capita GDP.

Given the huge divide between rural and urban India and the digital haves and have-nots, digitisation will be key to maintaining India’s global competitiveness, GDP growth, innovation and creating employment. The government’s digitising India vision has been designed around three core areas:

• Digital infrastructure for every citizen of India, with an aim to drive the enablement of urban and rural digital infrastructure primarily to provide e-Governance m-Governance to citizens.

• Governance and service on demand, which will focus on driving the modernisation and re-engineering of government processes and services to simplify governance.

• Digital empowerment of citizens, with the goal to address the current gap of the digital “haves“ and “have-nots“ by developing skills and capacities of not only the citizens but also of the government agencies and employees at large.

This is one of the most exciting initiatives the country has embraced. Digital India initiative has brought a new dimension to the local economy, from new jobs to more innovation and a booming start-up community. The opportunity in India has never been better. And if implemented well, it holds immense potential to create significant value for India and its citizens and leapfrog us to the 21st century. While this makes a compelling case for digitisation, for the citizens of India, it could transform the way they live and consume public services. While at the most basic level, digitising all of the government outposts across the country will not only bridge the rural-urban divide but also ensure efficient delivery of government services, subsidies and benefits.

Within the education space, imagine the remotest schools connected and students across the country having access to standardised best-in-class learning materials and experts. Imagine every student getting a chance to be digitally literate, in a world being driven by technology. In India alone, costs $10 billion a year in wasted time and fuel. Drivers looking for a parking space cause 30% of urban congestion, not to mention pollution. Imagine if Indian cities embedded networked sensors into parking spaces that relay to drivers real-time information about and directions to available spots. The potential this holds to reduce congestion, pollution and fuel consumption as well as generate more revenue for cities through dynamic parking fees for peak times is huge.

Street lighting, which today forms 1.5% of total electricity consumption (according to McKinsey) in India, can be transformed through digitisation. Motion-detection lights can save 70-80% of electricity and costs, according to an independent global trial of LED technology. In addition, smart street lighting initiatives can also reduce crime in the area by 7% because of better visibility and more content citizenry, according to Cisco’s estimates. If you consider electricity distribution, one of the main problems at Indian electricity utility companies is distribution losses constituting 1.5% of the country’s GDP. If local municipal bodies adopt smart grids or distribution automation, this problem can be solved.

The list of potential benefits from digitisation of public services will be a long one. What one cannot dispute is the sheer potential to transform the lives of citizens and positively impact the society and environment.
