Area of the rectangular field = 80 × 36 = 2880 m.2

Volume of the pit = 40 × 18 × 12 = 8640 m.3

Area of the remaining field = 2880 – (40 × 18) = 2880 – 720 = 2160 m.2

According to the question,

2160 × x = 8640

x = 4 m.
