Exam Pattern
SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2023
Staff Selection Commission of India will be conducting SSC CHSL Exam in two stages namely, Tier-1 & Tier-2 exam.
Tier-I & Tier- II exams will be conducted in online mode but Tier-I is of qualifying nature whereas Merit list will be prepared on the basis of overall performance of candidates in Tier-II Examination only.
The section wise SSC CHSL marks which are assigned to every section is mentioned below. Let us have a look on the exam pattern for all stages of SSC CHSL Recruitment process:

The exam would be conducted online comprising 4 sections having 100 questions in total and with maximum marks of 200. The duration of the exam will be 60 minutes.
The sections asked in SSC CHSL Tier-I Exam are:

- English Comprehension
Every section consists of 25 questions each and every question carries 2 marks each which makes it a total of 50 marks per section.
Penalty of Wrong Answer:
There is a negative marking of 0.50 Marks for every wrong answer marked by the student. There would be no sectional cut off. No marks shall be deducted if the question is not attempted by the candidate.

Penalty of Wrong Answer:
There will be negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section-I, Section-II and Module-I of Section-III.
Note: Module-I of Section-III i.e. Computer Knowledge Test is mandatory but qualifying in nature.

How To Apply
SSC CHSL Apply Online 2023
- The applications for SSC-CHSL must be submitted through online mode only.
- Just Login to online system through your Registration Number and password received during Registration.
- Click on "Apply" link in "Combined Graduate Level Examination" section under "Latest Notifications" tab.
- Information in columns at Sr. No-1 to 14 will be automatically filled from your One-time Registration Data which is non-editable. So be careful while filling your details.
- Sr. No-15: Select "Yes" if you belong to Economically Weaker Section (EWS). This is applicable for unreserved candidates only.
- Sr. No -16: Give your preferences of Examination Centres. You may choose examination Centres within the same Region. Choice for all the three Centres must be given in the order of preference.
- Sr. No -17: If you are an ex-serviceman, fill up the required information. Wards of servicemen/ ex-servicemen are not treated as ex-servicemen.
- Sr. No -18.1: If you are suffering from Cerebral Palsy or if you are eligible for availing the facility of scribe as per Para-7.1 and 7.2 of the Notice of examination, provide information about the requirement of scribe in that column.
- In Sr. No -19: Select "Yes", if you are applying for the post of Junior Statistical Officer. You should possess the required educational qualification for the mentioned post and enter the same at Sr. No -20.
- For Sr. No -21: Select "Yes", in case you are applying for the post of Statistical Investigator Grade-II. You should possess the required educational qualifications for this post and mention the same at Sr. No -22.
- Sr. No -23: If you are seeking for age relaxation, select appropriate age-relaxation category as per applicability.
- Sr. No -24: Please mark your highest qualification in this section.
- Sr. No -25: Please see Notice of Examination, Para No: 19 and fill up the details accordingly.
- Sr. No -26, 27 and 28: Information related to Present and Permanent Address will be filled up automatically from the One-time Registration Data.
- Information regarding Photo and Signature will be filled up automatically from the One-time Registration Data.
- Go through the declarations carefully and click on "I agree" check box if you accept the same. Fill up Captcha code.
- Preview and verify the information provided by you and finally submit the Application.
- Proceed for making fee payment if you are not exempted from payment of fee.
- The Fee can be paid through BHIM UPI, Net Banking or by using Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, RuPay Credit or Debit card or in cash at SBI Branches by generating SBI Challan. Refer Para-9 of the Notice of SSC CHSL Examination for further information on the payment of fee.
- When application is successfully submitted, it will be accepted 'Provisionally'. Candidate should take printouts of the application form for future records. Printout of the 'Application Form' is normally not required to be submitted to the Commission at any stage.
- The Fee payable for SSC CHSL is: Rs. 100/- (Rupees One Hundred only).
- Fee can be paid through BHIM UPI, Net Banking or by using Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, RuPay Credit or Debit card or in cash at SBI Branches by generating SBI Challan.
- Women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Persons with Disability (PwD) and Ex-servicemen (ESM) eligible for reservation are exempted from payment of fee.
- Applications received without the prescribed fee shall not be considered and summarily rejected.

To pay fee in cash:
Candidate should take print out of challan generated online after the completion of Part-1 registration.
Deposit the requisite fee in any branch of SBI and then continue with the Part-2 registration.
Those candidates who want to pay online can go directly to part-2 registration after completion of part-1 registration.
Candidate must supply registration number and date of birth to continue to Part-2 registration.
Note: Challan form will be generated online.

Quantitative Aptitude: The questions will be designed to test the ability of appropriate use of numbers and number sense of the candidate. The scope of the test will be computation of whole numbers, decimals, fractions and relationships between numbers, Percentage. Nationality:
A candidate must be either:
(a) a citizen of India, or
(b) a subject of Nepal, or
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or
(d) a refugee belonging to Tibet who came to India, before the 1st January,1962, for being permanently settled in India, or
(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania(Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar),Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Nationality:
A candidate must be either:
(a) a citizen of India, or
(b) a subject of Nepal, or
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or
(d) a refugee belonging to Tibet who came to India, before the 1st January,1962, for being permanently settled in India, or

SSC CHSL Admit Card 2023
Important Points:
- Facility for download of Admission Certificates will be available about 10-15 days before the examination on the website of ssc.nic.in
- Candidates must bring printout of the Admission Certificate to the Examination Hall.
- In addition to the Admission Certificate, it is mandatory to carry at least two passport size recent colour photographs, Original valid Photo-ID proof having the Date of Birth as printed on the Admission Certificate, such as:
A. Aadhaar Card/ Printout of E-Aadhaar
B. Voter’s ID Card,
C. Driving License,
D. PAN Card,
E. Passport,
F. ID Card issued by University/ College/ School,
G. Employer ID Card (Govt./ PSU),

- If Photo Identity Card does not have the date of birth printed on it then the candidate must carry an additional original document.
- PWD candidates using the facility of scribes as per Para 8.2 and 8.4 shall also be required to carry required Medical Certificate/ Undertaking/ Photocopy of the Scribe’s Photo ID Proof, as specified therein. Candidates without these documents will not be allowed to appear in the examination.
- Any other document mentioned in the Admission Certificate shall also be carried by the candidates while appearing in the Examination.
- Applications with blurred photograph and/ or signature will be rejected.

Every section consists of 25 questions each and every question carries 2 marks each which makes it a total of 50 marks per section.
Penalty of Wrong Answer:
There is a negative marking of 0.50 Marks for every wrong answer marked by the student. There would be no sectional cut off. No marks shall be deducted if the question is not attempted by the candidate.

2. Have a deep understanding of syllabus (Subject-Wise):
- After knowing the pattern, the major task to be done is knowing about the chapters which are asked in the exam subject-wise.
- Accordingly you have to prepare the list of the topics which you need to work on a lot.
You must know about important topics to prepare for the exam.
3. Must practice previous years’ papers and check your performance:
- Once, you are aware of your strong and weak areas and start working on it, go through the SSS CHSL previous year question papers and observe the trends that have been followed in all previous exams.
- Just like a real exam. Start attempting previous year papers in the allotted time without any disturbance or break.
- Note down your score, wrong questions and after analyzing it start working according to your performance.
- Generally, students are confident and assume that they have proficient knowledge on a particular topic/in a particular subject which is a good thing but attempting the question in a particular time frame with accuracy makes their selection chances much higher.
4. The more you practice, the closer to the success you are:
- Generally, it is found that students do not like getting involved in the subjects/topics they are weak which a wrong piece of act, working more and more on weak topics will make you successful.
- You will have to dedicate sufficient time to all the weak sections and less time to strong sections.

Start working with easy question which leads to confidence and make you motivated when you get good marks.
• Learn more and more short tricks:
After learning the basics, try to solve the questions in a short way. Learning short tricks initially takes much time but once are familiar with it helps you solve the questions within fraction of seconds. But Short tricks can be learnt only through a lot of practice.
• Skip the difficult questions at initial stage:
At the initial stage of preparation avoid spending time on the questions which are difficult to solve.
• Distribute the total time for each section:
These days every candidate has a mobile phone, keep the timer on while solving the question. Note down the time taken by you in solving various kinds of questions. According make the preference list to followed in the exam.
• Become your own competitor:
Whenever you solve a set of questions and if it requires 30 minutes, try to solve them in 20 minutes. Initially you will not be able to manage but you know ‘practice makes a man perfect’
5. Prepare for SSS CHSL Prelims, Mains and Tier 3 simultaneously:
- Generally, it is seen that candidates have a belief that first we should focus on prelims and thereafter on Mains which is not at all a good thought.
- In today’s phenomenon, there is no huge gap (max approx. 30 to 60 days) between the dates of Prelims and mains exams, which is not sufficient at all to complete the preparation of mains exam from 0 level.
- This time should be utilized only by practicing a number of mock tests.
- A candidate who deeply observes the equation of time gap and required studies, he/she works simultaneously for all the phases.
